This weekend we went to Big Sur National Forrest with Tianna and Hunter (Kaelyn was on a school field trip to see an Opera) for some camping and hiking. It is a beautiful area for a family weekend. We got a campsite down by Big Sur river and set camp the first night. There was much hotdog cooking and smores eating before bed! Next morning we had cubbed steak and eggs for breakfast over the fire, broke camp and then went for a 2.5 hour hike with the kids up Mt. Manuel Trail. The kids did great! They even learned a little map and compass work, how to use a GPS, and I went over some basic first aid (bandaging, splints and slings). We're planning another trip soon!
