Night of the scissor sweep

Tonight we worked on an oldie but a goodie :) We covered the scissor sweep from closed guard. The setup was same side cuff grip and cross hold collar grip - partner postures foward (feeding the drill) - scissor sweep setup, load on shin and then sweep. First round it was simple technique drill and then second round we focused on grip and loading setups. Next we added the Americana from mount and then put it all together for a flow drill. I got a chance to roll with everyone that showed up on the mat tonight (small class). I worked back control for my end tonight, but also tried to help them work on there posture when I put them in the guard. Awesome night overall...look out Wednesday!

Tonight we had 6 on the mat. We worked oppisite side knee up pass of 09 to scarf hold. Next we drilled figure four (americana) lock from scarf hold using your leg to sink the lock. Then we put them together for a flow drill. After drilling we all rolled for about 20 minutes and I was able to get to almost everyone on the mat. I made sure to hit the ones I didn't get to on Tuesday and then the new guy as well. Good night, but MAN has my mat endurance sufferred over the last couple of months! I need more jits :)

Saturday I'm off to Pordenone to train at the big school there. I've already met the instructor who is a great guy and welcomed me onto the mat like I was already family. They've got some super solid players down there that I'm really going to enjoy training with on a regular basis. I'll keep you posted!

Good training tonight. The group here at Aviano has two legit blue belts (from different instructors) and the rest are whites. It seems to fluxuate from 4 to 15 people depending on work schedules and exercises on the yard. Last night we worked knee up pass of 09 to same side, side control lockdown into mount. After that we drilled armbar from mount and then ended by putting them all together for a flow drill. There's some real talent here in the gym so rolling went really well. I got a chance to roll with all four that showed up tonight and they each were a fun roll. The "senior" blue belt of the group is a BIG guy tipping the scales at around 210 of solid muscle so I had to fall back to my guard game with him and play it safe for the roll....otherwise I'm sure he could have snapped me in half with his biceps that are the size of my thigh! :)

In the end it was a great night and I have some "jits briuses" again....which is nice :)

He lives!!!!

So, here we are in Italy! I have to say that this is the beginning of week two and its AMAZING. I love the food, scenery and the people!. I've found a group here on base that does a little jiu jitsu and hopped in with them. Its a small group of guys that have various levels of training (none above blue) from different parts of the globe who kind of just "found" each other on Aviano. I went easy and trained twice already and my knee is great and holding steady :) There is also a Gracie-Barra school in Pordenone about 15 miles from here so I plan to drop in there this weekend.

Anyway, I'm alive....training both jits and PT.....and drinking a lot of wine :) Live is good!
